Caleta Horno and Baby Guanacos

We have been in the anchorage Caleta Horno for 11 days now and have been enjoying everyday. The weather has been warm (not hot) and dry and there is lots of good hiking.

Daily we see guanacos and sheep. Two days ago we were hiking and scared off a small herd of guanacos but a baby, probably only a week old, got left behind. When it saw us it came bounding up to us thinking we were its mother or part of the herd. We couldn't believe that we were within a few feet of this very cute youngster. I was able to get some photos that I will pass on later.

This morning we awoke to the sound of someone yelling from the bluffs. It was a gaucho on horseback that was herding sheep. There are no structures for miles in any direction so he must have been out for a few days and had camped close by last night.

If the weather holds we will leave tomorrow. It will take us at least a week to get to our next destination. We will try to send periodic positions reports and let you know how we are doing. If you don't hear from us for a few days don't be concerned. It just means that I didn't get a good radio connection.
