World Cup Soccer Madness
We have read about it in the papers and seen film clips on TV but to be in the mist of soccer fever is a different matter. And Argentines are fanatics! It's not hard to know when the Argentine team scores - we can hear cheering, horns blaring and fireworks going off, all the way from the other side of the river. And after they've won a game the streets are packed with people jumping, yelling, blowing car horns (even the police cars sound their sirens,) with traffic completely stopped in some intersections. Being Norte Americanos we cheered for Mexico when they played Argentina in the elmination rounds.
Unfortunately, Argentina lost to Germany just a few hours ago and it's unbelievable how quiet the streets are now. It's almost as if there was a funeral. I'm sure many feel that way. Soccer has consumed the population for the last few weeks and now it's over. It will be nice if someone other than Brazil wins, since they've dominated World Cup Soccer for so long. We just have to wait and see.
