Slow Go So Far - Galapagos
01 October 2008, 1200 UTC
Position: 25 22.86S, 83 31.88W
Progress has been very slow the last 8 days - only 565 nm since passing Juan Fernandez. The winds have been light or non-existent. We're hoping that we'll start getting the SE trades soon and make better progress.
We made a decision the other day to stop in the Galapagos so we've altered our course and continuing NW - currently 1500 nm to go. At the time 2000 nm to the Galapagos sounded better than 3500 nm to the Marquesas. We always wanted to go to the Galapagos so it seemed like the right thing to do.
The weather has been nice and we're working on our tans so when we step onshore we don't blind everyone with our winter white skin.
Ciao, Nancy and Mark
