Follow the s/v Tamara with Google Earth

We have added a new feature to the blog. We will be keeping a image file of the path of the Tamara as it sails the seas. Whenever we get a new plot from the Tamara we will add it to the image file.

So just click the image to the right and you can view the progress of the Tamara as it sails the sea.

Of course if you have Google Earth then you are already following the path of the Tamara.

Note: The last coordinates are for Caleta Horno, Argentina. Google Earth didn't know the name so we had to use the city coordinates.

ETA Caleta Horno, 11/15/06 after dark. Will have to hove to outside until daylight.

Have seen Magellan's Penguins but not whales so far, though one of the Southern Right Whale's breeding grounds is only 70 miles away at Golfo Nuevo.

Mar Del Plata, Argentina

A four day weather window of opportunity presented itself so we finished our few remaining chores and left Mar del Plata Saturday at 10:30 am. Destination Caleta Horno at 45 02.5 S, 65 41.1 W., 580 nm SW with northerlies forecast until Wednesday.

Mar del Plata is Argentine's big beach resort on the Atlantic. It is also a big fishing and grain port. We had visited briefly in April with a French sailing couple, Francis and Michelle, who we met in Southern Brazil, and their Argentine friends. So we were familiar with the city. Like most resort it was more enjoyable in the off season.

Last weekend we took a day excursion to the small town of Balcarce, birthplace of Juan Fangio, probably the greatest race car driver ever. We visited the Juan Fangio museum, a well done tribute to the man and early Argentine and Formula One racing. Mark is a big race car fan so a visit to the museum was a must.

And so we say goodbye, temporarily, to our new friends Annika and Bjorn on the Swedish boat Lindisfarn, Rex and Louise and the Australian boat Six Pack, Bernard and Anne on the French boat Siwa, and Hamish, Kate and two girls on the American boat Seal.
